Tasks
Translation of Section 3 (1) of the Hessisches Studierendenwerksgesetz (=Hessian Studentenwerk Act):
Studierendenwerke are responsible for "The task of the Studierendenwerke is the economic, social, health, sports and cultural support of students. The Studierendenwerke take into account the special needs of students with children, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, and foreign students. They promote the compatibility of study and family as well as study and disability. Approximately 230 employees at the Studierendenwerk Kassel are involved in carrying out these tasks:
- Implementation of the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) and the Upgrading Training Assistance Act (AFBG) - the so-called "Aufstiegs-BAföG"
- Catering services in Mensas and cafeterias
- Construction and operation of student halls of residence
- Arranging private rooms and apartment
- Implementation of statutory accident insurance
- Offering general social counseling, student financial counseling, psychological counseling
- Childcare
These tasks are among the most important areas of work of the Studierendenwerk. The Studierendenwerk is a public institution. It is under the legal supervision of the Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts.
