Our Commitment
Open to Diversity - United Against Exclusion
We are here to help students. No matter where they come from, what they believe, what language they speak, what color or gender they are, or who they love.
We value the rich diversity of our staff. It enriches the way we work together and makes us stronger.
This is why:
- We stand for democratic values: all people have the right to freedom, equality, justice, cohesion and security.
- We are responsible for fair, respectful and tolerant behavior.
- We stand for an international, diverse campus and against hatred, discrimination and violence.
Guidelines For Our Work
Our legal mandate
According to the Hessian Student Services Act (Hessisches Studentenwerkgesetz), student services organisations are responsible for the economic, social, health, sporting and cultural support of students. The Studierendenwerk Kassel offers services in the areas of university catering, accommodation, student finance, childcare and counselling.
For the University
The Studierendenwerk exists because the University of Kassel exists. We see ourselves as an efficient and competent partner for the people who work and study at the University of Kassel.
For the students
The students of the University of Kassel are our most important customers. We feel an obligation to them that goes beyond our legal mandate. We must be aware that students finance a large part of our work through their semester fees, which are levied according to the principle of solidarity.
Working together
We can only do our job if we work together. We attach great importance to fair, appreciative and respectful interaction - externally with students, guests and the University of Kassel, and internally with our employees.
For each other
We create an inclusive environment where people feel welcome and valued in all their diversity.
Work and family
We promote the compatibility of work and family for our employees, taking into account operational concerns.
Open to the public
An unbureaucratic and lively exchange with students is important to us. We are open to ideas and criticism.
General conditions
We want to use the income we generate, the government grants we receive and the students' semester fees to improve the social conditions of our students as much as possible. At the same time, we strive to make decisions and act in a sustainable manner. We are guided by the principles of economic efficiency.
In order to fulfil its legal mandate, the Studierendenwerk Kassel needs the moral and financial support of the political authorities.
