Student Hall Internet
Residents do not need to sign a contract with a private Internet provider: All student hall rooms are equipped with a WLAN router and high-speed Internet. With multiples of 100 Mbps, you can surf, stream, play games, and (of course) study with ease and at no extra cost.
- Exception: The University of Kassel provides the Vor dem Rabensberg student hallwith internet. In case of any problems residents should therefore contact the ITS network operations service desk: netzbetrieb((at))uni-kassel.de
This is how it works:
Plug and Play
The router in every student hall room/apartment is fully configured and ready to use.
- If the device is unplugged, simply plug it into the room's power and network socket to start browsing.
Note: The router must be connected to the network socket in the room via the WAN slot.
WLAN

Find the signal with your room number and connect to it to use your room WLAN.
- The WLAN password is located on the back of your router under WLAN-Netzwerkschlüssel (WPA2):
Note: If you want to disable your WLAN, you only need to press the WLAN button on your router once. Press it again to reactivate the WLAN.
Customer Support
1&1 customer support is available Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm:
- Tel.: +49 800 550 555 702
- E-Mail: support((at))hotzone.de
Advanced settings
In principle, you can connect any device (e.g. notebook or Smart TV) with an Ethernet network card to the router in your room. If you are unable to connect to the Internet, please set the IP address to automatic (DHCP) in the menu of your device, e.g. under Network or Internet Settings.
- If this does not work, please contact the 1&1 customer support.
Important Notes
- The router must always be plugged into the network socket in the room and plugged into the power socket. If the router is not connected, 1&1 cannot provide customer support.
- All routers are the property of 1&1 Versatel GmbH and are part of the room inventory. As long as the tenancy agreement with the Studierendenwerk Kassel is valid, the tenants are responsible for the routers in their rooms. Any costs incurred, such as repairs or replacements, will be charged to the tenant by the Studierendenwerk Kassel.
- Private WLAN routers must not be connected to the network socket in the room, but they can be connected to one of the free LAN ports of the room router.
